Snoring is the vibration of the respiratory structures and the resulting sound due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, in most cases, it can be unpleasant and loud.
There is no certain treatment that can completely stop snoring. Medications are usually not helpful in treating snoring symptoms. Snorers are advised to lose weight ,stop smoking and avoid alcohol before bedtime as they relax the throat and tongue muscles which in turn narrow the airways.
Also, CPAP machine is often used to control sleep apnea and the snoring associated with it. It is relatively a safe medical treatment.
Less effective alternatives include over the counter aids such as nasal sprays, nasal strips and anti- snore clothing and pillows.
